Most visitors enjoy shopping in Iceland because the shops have a wide variety of merchandise. The price in general is similar to the other Nordic countries and tax-free shopping is widespread.
The main shopping street in the centre of Reykjavík is Laugavegur. It will provide you with many small and exciting specialty shops, competitive fashionwear and designer labels.
It is sometimes said that every other Icelander is an author or an artist of some kind.
Culture in Iceland is of a remarkable variety which often surprises visitors. Two things are "a must".
One is the National Museum of Iceland in Reykjavik, which recently reopened after extensive modernization and refurbishment. On display are objects from culture in Iceland throughout the ages.
It's important to know that on Wednesdays you don't have to pay admission fees. Senior citizens, students, groups of 10 only pay half price and children under 18 years don't pay anything.
The other is Árbæjarsafn, also in Reykjavik, a beautiful and charming open-air museum with old houses where the visitors can learn about the lifestyle of the past.
Teenagers in Iceland are immensely active in their extra curricular activities. They do sports, go to music schools, dancing schools, sing in a choir among other things. Most of them are great young people. There is however always the danger of drugs and drinking which unfortunately some teenagers get involved with.

People in Iceland are forged by the harsh and unpredictable nature of our country. We are hard working, most of us work long hours to make a decent living. To outsiders we may at times seem distant, even cold. But get to know us better and you will see that we are warm, honest, emotional and quite friendly to foreigners.
People in Iceland are highly educated. The school system is very good and there are all kinds of opportunities to study at all levels.

Arnaldur is a writer and has pubished a number of thrillers which have become incredibly popular, both in Iceland and abroad. He received the Glass Key Prize, from Skandinaviska Kriminalselskapet (Crime Writers of Scandinavia) two years in a row and was the first author to do so.
His thrillers have been translated into several languages and he is well on his way to become one of our most famous people in Iceland.
Everyone knows about the singer Bjork and her incredible success all over the world. The story doesn’t finish there because there are more famous Icelanders. But the rest of us are quite likable too and we mostly lead a normal, busy life.
“This was simply incredible!” said an English friend to me, just a few weeks ago after he went on a whale watch trip. He simply couldn’t believe how many whales he saw during the trip and talked about it for days!
Whale watching in Iceland is a fairly new kind of activity. It began in 1995 and has been growing ever since. There are few places in the world where so many species can be seen close to the shore.
