Drangey, the island hideaway of one of the biggest heroes of the Icelandic Sagas, Grettir Ásmundarson – an outlaw from the 11h century. His superhuman feats are of course recounted and even embellished in our Sagas.
He and his brother are said to have lived on the island for 3 years before they were killed by their enemies.

If you want to visit the island, which isn’t really more than an unhabited rock, you should catch a boat from Sauðárkrókur, a town in north Iceland.
Uninhabited – not counting the large colonies of seabirds that live there, such as seagulls and the funny puffins. The view of the Atlantic and the surrounding islands along with the adorable puffins more than justifies a trip to the island. The puffins are not at all shy – you can walk right up to them.
Be sure to wear something that can take some unexpected “gifts” from the birds above..... and be aware that you have to be able to climb up 180 metres of ladders, planks and staircases... sometimes treacherous (and preferably down again.
